| Boomer: The Proud, the Brave, One of the Lucky Few |
| Left behind by an uncaring family at just one year old, Boomer has a birth defect on his left front leg. He can get around but it is obvious he is uncomfortable, in pain and as helping Special Needs Animals is part of our mission, Furry Kids just wants to make his life better. Boomer is very deserving, so sweet, loves other dogs and people and even cats! He will make someone a wonderful companion some day. |

| Dr. Robert Taylor of Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, CO is in the process of constructing an implant that will be inserted into Boomer’s Humerous (leg bone above the elbow). To that implant, a permanent prosthesis will be attached that will act as his forearm and foot. We visited Dr. Taylor in February for the initial consultation and discovered that in addition to the birth defect, Boomer had a torn ligament in his knee. Since then, Mission Med Vet in Mission, KS, did a surgery called a TPLO to fix the knee. Boomer is recovering nicely from that surgery and is walking again now.
Once Boomer has completed all of his surgeries and rehabilitation, he will begin training with his owner to be a therapy dog and become officially Delta Society Certified. Heddie Leger, of PawZone, who has trained therapy dogs for a number of years, will help Boomer realize a new purpose in life. Boomer will learn basic obedience, attend a special workshop to test his temperament, and learn to be comfortable around hospital equipment and a variety of types of people he might come across in medical facilities. Of course, with his personal hospital experience, these situations are already second nature to Boomer. We look forward to having him as the first Furry Kids Refuge rescue to become a working therapy dog.

Meet One Of Our Happy Furry Kids – A Successful Dog Adoption!

 We got Betty home Sat afternoon and she is now part of our family. She is, by far, one of the best natured dogs I've ever met. She took to us very quickly and made herself at home asleep under our coffe table. We also took her to the dog park in Lees Summit, and she did very well around the multitude of different dogs/children. She has last taken to licking my 3 month old son's toes every chance she gets LoL
She is awesome... we couldnt be happier. |
Meet One Of Our Happy Furry Kids – A Successful Cat Adoption!

The Cricket and Cleo Klepac story:
Once the thought of adoption entered our minds, we felt a female cat would be the best choice for our home, given the fact that we had two male cats already.
Cricket and Cleo (aka Dot and Dolly) were beautiful little girls, just 6 months old. Knowing that they were sisters and had not been separated since birth, we felt compelled to adopt them both. Separating the two of them could have been detrimental to their mental well-being. Adopting these two kittens together allowed for them to easily adapt to their new surroundings. They had each other for support while they got to know the rest of the family.
We were a bit concerned with increasing our furry kid’s household up to four, but their personalities and loving affection has stolen our hearts; and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Adopting two siblings together is the best advice we could give anyone. I can’t even tell you how many smiles, laughs and the pure joy they have given to us. It is twice the fun as having one!
