OCTOBER IS NATIONAL ADOPT-A-SHELTER DOG MONTH

BuglerNational Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month is a great time to consider adopting a dog from your local shelter or rescue group. Millions of animals are killed in shelters across the United States each year. Rescues, such as Furry Kids, help reduce those numbers by bringing dogs and cats into our program and into foster care...for example, dogs like "Bugler"...

Bugler beforeFurry Kids has taken in this sweet boy from the KCK shelter. Bugler is believed to be around 2 years old and weighs 37 pounds, which is very, very underweight for his size. You can see from the photo on the left that he is skin and bones! The KCK shelter workers told us that people just would not feed him. How sad!! Bugler has been with us for just a few weeks and already he has stolen his foster mom's heart! He is a complete doll who loves other dogs and doesn't have a mean bone in his body! We will be working to "fatten" him up and get him completely healthy before he will be ready for adoption. So, until then, Bugler has decided that he wants his own page on the Furry Kids' website so he can keep you updated on his progress.  Watch the Furry Kids Website for Bugler's Blog....COMING SOON!

FALL FOOD DRIVE!!
kk

Let's EAT!!We've got hungry mouths to feed!!! Furry Kids is running low on dog food supplies and we need your help! We will be kicking off our Fall Food Drive this Saturday, October 16th and will continue the drive weekly until November 7th. We need good quality dry dog food, with meat listed as the first ingredient.

Donations of any size bag of the dog food can be dropped off at our weekly adoption events. We will be at the Lee's Summit Petco every Saturday and at the Blue Springs' Petco on Sunday, October 31st and Sunday, November 7th. Donations can be dropped off between Noon and 5:00 PM at both locations.

Would you like to donate some dog food but can't make it to Petco? Please email or call Connie (816-853-9360) and we'll make other arrangements! If you'd like to donate monetarily, just click the 'donate' button above and specify that you'd like your donation to go towards food.

BaylieMeet Baylie....

Baylie is an 1 1/2  year old Red Heeler who came to Furry Kids’ when his owner could no longer take of her.  She is very sweet and just loves people. She gets along well with other dogs, too! AND....she is housetrained so that is a definite BONUS!

Furry Kids' Refuge is especially in tuned with animals who have special needs. As a group, we rescue a lot of well adjusted, healthy dogs who find loving forever homes quickly.  Then there are those that have issues that make them not-so-highly adoptable...like "Traci."

TraciTraci is a female, full grown, Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who was rescued from a local shelter when her time had run out. Traci has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and has to take an inexpensive medication on a daily basis.  But this doesn't stop Traci....she loves to run and play! You can tell she definitely has the herding breed in her because she will sometimes nip at the other dogs heels to keep them in line and nip at our heels to playfully keep us in line too! So, Traci would probably do best in a home with older children as she might be too much for the littler ones.

Traci loves to be part of the family...she likes playing with toys but is also content just to lay down with them.  She craves attention from her humans more than she does play time.  Traci just wants to be part of what is going on, whether it's watching TV on the couch or going bye-bye for a walk. For more information on Traci, please check out her Petfinder page.

Domenic before...
Our hopes for all of our Furry Kids is that they find a great forever home. The photo on the right is one of our lucky Furry Kids before he was adopted. His name was Domenic when he was with us but now he is known as "Buster." His new family sent us this note and a great photo... If you look real close at the photo below, you will see that one of the animals is not stuffed ...:-)Buster now!

" Dominic is doing very well with his new family. It took a few days for him to get used to our other adopted dog (Ellie) but they are inseparable now. We did change his name to Buster because our son's name is also Dominick and it was a bit confusing for both of them...:-) I have attached a picture of our daughter, Abigail, with Buster and this shows how truly lovable and patient he is with our kids... Thank you."

THANK YOU, to the Wendte Family!!...for giving our Furry Kid such a fantastic home!!

If you want someone who's always willing to go out with you, at any hour, for as long as you want and will go wherever you want ...

... then adopt a dog!

KITTY LITTER BUCKETS ??

Kitty Litter Bucket

You'll notice a NEW item on our wish list..."Empty Kitty Litter Buckets." We are collecting these in an effort to help Chain of Hope whose main goal is to help alleviate the suffering of abused and neglected animals within the urban core of Kansas City. These buckets can be used for water and attached to a fence so they don't spill over like a bowl on the ground. This gives the dog a better chance of maintaining a much needed water source.

If you'd like to make a donation, please bring items to the Lee's Summit Petco between noon and 5pm on any Saturday. We appreciate your support!
