  News!
In celebration of National Volunteer Month, Furry Kids' Refuge would like to recognize and THANK all of our volunteers, without whom we would not be able to continue our rescue work.

The world is not a perfect place, and many people, animals, places, and communities need help. As a result, there are many volunteer opportunities to choose from and many causes to support. Furry Kids' Refuge is very fortunate to have a team of wonderful volunteers who have chosen to give their time and talent to help our organization. These volunteers give unselfishly of themselves day after day and make a hugh difference in our lives and in the lives of our rescue animals.

Volunteering can be a lot of work but it can also be a very rewarding experience as Jonathan Graham, one of our youth volunteers, mentions in his article (below) on his own volunteering experience. If you have an interest in volunteering, please contact us or stop by one of our adoption events. We can always use more volunteers!!

Jonathan & WallyIt all started two summers ago with a cat named Smoky! The first time I volunteered I begged my mom to let me keep doing it.  Boy, have I gotten attached! As soon as Smoky got adopted into her forever home my family and I started fostering dogs. We have fostered so many different dogs; all different breeds, ages, and most importantly, personalities.  We have placed over 21 dogs into forever loving homes. There will always be the dog that you will think will never get adopted but it only takes the right family to walk through the doors of PETCO or find us on the internet.

Every dog has their own story. The one most dear to my heart is a dog named Edwin a.k.a. Fletcher. Although I didn’t have him for very long, I think about him all the time. He was a just big puppy and to come home every day and see that big, bright, shiny face just made my day every time. Fletcher got adopted on Christmas Eve of 2010!

Furry Kids has opened many doors for me...click here to read the rest of Jonathan's story.

SPRING IS HERE!

LuLuSpring has sprung, and with the change of season, our thoughts inevitably turn to Easter celebrations, spring cleaning and much-needed home improvement projects. But the new balmy weather can prove not-so-sunny for curious pets—or their unwitting parents. Before you embark on seasonal chores or outdoor revelry, take inventory of potential springtime hazards for your delicate, furry friend. To help you out, the ASPCA experts have come up with a few seasonal tips that will help prevent mishaps or misfortunes. Click here for their Springtime Safety Tips.

If you suspect your pet may have come in contact with or ingested a potentially poisonous substance, contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Happy Tail!!

It has been a crazy few months with the arrival of our new baby, but if you remember our family adopted Olivia the black cat from Petco many Saturdays ago! We love her, even Aaron! She has integrated into our family famously! She is soooo friendly and playful! She even becomes concerned when one of the kids is crying and comes into find out and gives them a little nuzzle. She follows us around the house, talks to us all the time, and loves to be cuddled!
I attached a picture of her and Aaron sleeping....she is so silly, loves to sleep like a baby on her back!

Well, thank you for fostering our kitty, we love her and appreciate you and all those at the Furry Kids' Refuge!

Many thanks,
The Robisons...Aaron, Ellie, Lilli, Keller and Olivia

Featured Pets

Boo!Bugler a.k.a. "Boo" was picked up as a stray by a local shelter and never claimed by the people who almost starved him to death. When Furry Kids took Boo in, he only weighed 37 lbs and was in horrible condition. We've had Boo for about 4 months now; he has gained much needed weight and has turned into a gorgeous dog!

Boo is a real sweetheart! He loves people and tries so hard to please. You wonder how he could still trust and admire us humans after being so neglected by one of us. Read more about Boo on Petfinder and take a look at his before and after pictures on Facebook.

Furry Kids' Refuge was saddened to learn that two of our Furry Kid Alumni recently went over the Rainbow Bridge.
BuddyBuddy spent the first 5 years of his life in the deplorable conditions of a puppy mill breeder. His last years were spent learning what it meant to be a real dog and being loved by his a wonderful forever family. He even had his own blog!

JoJoJoJo Dancer was a stray who was rescued from a Kill shelter. He was a special little guy who just had a way of making you smile. JoJo was adopted by a wonderful family who adored him and provided him with a wonderful forever home.

Both of these pets made a special imprint on their owner's lives and ours. The Furry Kids family offers our sincerest condolences and wish you the very best memories of your cherished family members. We remember them, and so they remain in us.

STOP THE REPEAL!

URGENT!

04-13-11 - By a vote of 85-71, the Missouri House of Representatives has just joined the Missouri Senate in passing Senate Bill 113. This Bill would result in the total repeal of Prop B—also known as the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act—and wipe out the provisions to protect puppy mill dogs Missouri citizens fought for.

What can you do about it?

Contact Governor Jay Nixon and ask him to protect the will of the people and intervene to uphold Proposition B.
