Perfect World!

A Letter of Thanks from Mimi ..:-)

Mimi napping...Dear Jacque,

It’s me, Mimi. I thought you might be worried about me being so far away and all so I thought I should let you know how things are going for me in the forever home you found for me. I still miss my foster family, they were really good to me but I know they are happy I have found a new home.

I am working hard to train Nancy. She is doing pretty well so far. I have great fun in the big chair where I can watch to see if people are trying to come to the house. So far, I have successfully chased away many people. I think Nancy likes that because she laughs when I jump down and toss my new toy around. She needs to laugh more but I’m working on it.  She has learned that if she brings the treat jar outside I will potty out in the grass, it’s pretty gross, I much prefer to use the Potty Pads, they are soft and don’t bother my feet. Besides, I think there are bugs in the yard and I hate bugs. The patio is OK; I can run around from gate to gate without having to get into the yucky grass so I really like that. I have been willing to be quiet when people come to visit but only if she holds me, no point in not barking and jumping up on them if I get to be hugged instead. She had a friend who came to see me last night and she was very tasty, I licked her all over and she just laughed so I think she really enjoyed the attention. She also brought me some new treats that tasted like Peanut Butter. The were quite tasty but I only go the have a few. What’s the point of bringing me something and then putting it on top of the Refrigerator? Really, sometimes I just don’t understand people.

I like sleeping under the covers, it’s nice and quiet. I still am worried about that cat who I think wants to take my toy. I have one favorite, it all legs and arms and easy for me to toss around. I sometimes have to carry it for quite a while to be sure she knows it is MINE and doesn’t try to take it. Nancy gets unhappy if I growl at the silly cat, I’m just trying to warn her to stay away from my things, what’s wrong with that? I heard her on the phone talking about some kind of training, what’s up with that? I don’t need any training. Maybe it’s for her. She ignores me when I just bark and jump up on her so she could use some training, that’s for sure.

One of Mimi's favorite spots! Altogether, I am having a pretty good time. This house has great windows that I can see out of and the only window that is high is behind the couch so I can just jump onto the back and see everything I need to see. It really helps when I am chasing someone away. They need to know I mean business. Food is pretty much the same as with Bart so no news there.

I also overheard her talking to the Vet who is coming to see me next week. She must just want to see how pretty I am, I feel great so don’t need to be seeing any Vet. She and Tracy took me to a “groomer” because she said I needed a “Potty path” whatever that is. Anyway, most of my beautiful hair around my back end is very short. The “groomer” insisted I was a Japanese Chen, I heard Nancy telling Tracy they even put that on my ticket (what the heck is a ticket?). Can you imagine? I have never even been to Japan. Some people have very strange ideas. Nancy looked it up on the computer when we got home and I was right, I don’t look anything like a Japanese Chen. Some people just don’t know what they are talking about. Anyway, my new haircut looks pretty good. Someone even saw my new picture on Facebook and said I looked dignified, don’t hear that much so I guess it’s alright.

So, just wanted to let you know I’m doing really well in my new home. I am going to like it here. You did a good job of finding me a forever home so I want to thank you and all of the other people who were helping out. I bet you are doing a good job with the other dogs I met. Hopefully, they will also find a good new forever home.

Thank you!  Mimi

SUNNY POINTE ELEMENTARY ROCKS!!
Kyle Kirk & StudentsFurry Kids' Refuge recently visited with the students at Sunny Pointe Elementary in Blue Springs during their Prime Time Summer Journey Program. FKR volunteers brought several dogs including Tessa, a tiny Chihuahua puppy, Kricket, a one-eyed Pug, and Brutus, a St. Bernard who weighs over 200 lbs. Needless to say, the kids really enjoyed interacting with, and learning about, the different dogs. A great time was had by all!

AND to make the day even more special, Sunny Pointe students presented Furry Kids' with 520lbs of dog food which they had collected for us. Can you say "AWESOME"? The dogs at Furry Kids' eat a lot of dog food so this will really help them!

We would like to sincerely thank Kyle Kirk and Amy King for organizing this event and to all the students at Sunny Pointe.....Furry Kids' Refuge thinks YOU ROCK!!! Thanks everybody!! It was a great day!
THOUGHTFUL CHILDREN!!

Mackenzie
Mackenzie Brummett recently celebrated a birthday and instead of asking for presents for herself, she asked her friends to bring supplies for the rescue animals of Furry Kids' Refuge!! And this is the second time that Mackenzie has done this for Furry Kids! AWESOME!
!

Jocelyn
For her 7th birthday, Jocelyn Odom didn't think she needed any more toys so she asked her friends to bring items and donations for Furry Kids!

The donations included lots of goodies including toys, treats, dog food, and $$! We are so thankful to both girls for their generosity...what they did was very thoughtful and I'm sure made their families very proud. We are proud of them too and we are very appreciative!!

Special Furry Kids!

JaceIf you've been following Jace's story, you know he has gone through a lot in the short time that he has been on this earth!  He lost his family, he endured the pain of Hip Dysplasia for months, he was put in a shelter environment and almost euthanized, he went through Hip Surgery on both hips at once and then he swallowed a marble which required emergency surgery!! And through it all, Jace has been absolutely wonderful!  He has a fantastic even temperament and he just loves everybody!

Furry Kids’ Refuge would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to Jace’s fund.  Because of your generosity and support, Jace’s Fund totaled $1207….WOOOOHOOO!!Not only we were able to pay for his surgery, but we were also able to pay for his medication, his follow-up visits, his food, and even a Life Vest for his Water Therapy!!  Jace will now have a much better quality of life THANKS to you!

So, what's next for Jace??  He's looking for a forever home!!  Is yours available?????????  You can learn more about Jace on his Petfinder Page and on the Special Furry Kids Blog.

MillieAs you know, we rescue a lot of animals who each, in their own way, have touched our hearts. Then there are those that seem to tug a little bit harder at the heart strings and make a special place in our hearts. Jace, who we just talked about in the previous article, is one of those "Special" Furry Kids. Another is Millie, the Mastiff, who has lived her life on a chain and has been bred over and over again. Her body is scarred and weathered from inadequate care and a life lived totally outdoors.

Millie’s horrible life has not tainted her sweet personality…as she leans into you so you can keep scratching behind her ears, you have to wonder how this precious soul, who has been so mistreated by humans, can now be so loving towards them.  Happily, Millie doesn’t hold a grudge and she is a doll!  She may not be the best looking dog, but she is a wonderful dog who deserves a chance to be healthy and hopefully soon, find her forever home!

Please take a moment to read Millie's story and an update on how she is doing now.
Featured Pets

Hi! I'm Lizzie!
Lizzie is a English Bulldog/Boxer mix (we think) female who is 8 months old and weighs 46 lbs…so she will be a big girl when full grown.  Lizzie was released to Furry Kids due to a family break-up. She loves other dogs, no matter what the size, and is very gentle when playing and is not dominant in any way.  Lizzie also loves people of all ages…she wants to please you and is eager to learn new things.

Read about Lizzie on her Petfinder page.

Charlie
My name is Charlie and I'm a girl "Tuxedo" kitty...I know, it's a boy's name but I'm girl, honest!  I'm about 2 years old and a really nice man rescued me when my owners abandoned me.  I have been spayed, current on my shots and I have a clean bill of health from the vet.  I'm really good about using the litter box, too!

Read about Charlie on her Petfinder page.

Special Tribute

Furry Kids' Refuge was saddened to learn that one of our Furry Kid Alumni recently went over the Rainbow Bridge.

RuffRuff was a handsome Schnauzer who came to Furry Kids when his owner had passed away. He was an older dog, a "senior", so not the most adoptable dog among all the Furry Kids. But not to worry...Ruff was quickly adopted and found a great forever home. Ruff had some health issues and eventually went blind. His wonderful family did everything possible for Ruff and made sure he lived out his life in comfort and with love.

Ruff made a special imprint on his owner's life and ours. The Furry Kids family offers our sincerest condolences and wish you the very best memories of your cherished family member. We remember him, and so he remains in us.
