REASONS TO SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET

#1 REASON:
Over 5 million helpless, unwanted animals are euthanized every year.  Pet overpopulation has reached epic proportions - please do your part by spaying or neutering your pet.

  • In 6 years, one female dog and its offspring can produce 67,000 puppies.
  • In 7 years, one female cat and its young can produce 420,000 kittens.
  • 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the USA alone.   Compared to only 10,000 human births, it's clear that there will never be enough homes for all these animals.
  • An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year.   That's one about every six and one half seconds.
  • It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill, and dispose of homeless animals.
  • Over 56% of dogs and puppies entering shelters are killed, based on reports from over 1,055 facilities across America.
  • Approximately 71% of cats and kittens entering shelters are killed, based on reports from 1,055 facilities across America.

FACTS:
  • Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to fight with other animals.
  • Males neutered early in life are less aggressive toward other males and are not distracted by females in heat.
  • Males neutered early in life are less likely to roam.
  • Males neutered early in life are less likely to mark territory.
  • Spayed and neutered pets are less distracted by sexual instincts and are easier to train.
  • Spayed and neutered pets are usually more reliable "watch dogs" and more responsive to family members because they are less distracted by sexual instincts.
  • Neutered male pets are less likely to suffer infections or disorders like prostate disease, testicular cancer or hernias - all of which can be FATAL.
  • Spayed female pets are less likely to suffer from breast, uterine or ovarian cancer - all of which are FATAL -  especially when spayed before the first heat cycle.

MYTHS:
  • My pet will get fat and lazy.
  • If your pet is overweight or lazy, it is most likely because he or she does not get enough exercise and eats too much.  Other problems may be thyroid disease or diabetes.
  • My pet's personality will change.
  • Spaying or neutering will make your pet less aggressive toward other dogs or cats, will be less likely to wander and will generally have a better personality.
  • We can sell puppies or kittens and make money.
  • Even well known breeders are lucky if they break even on raising a litter properly.
