The Cost Benefit to You
Cost is only one of the many reasons why adopting a new pet is so much better than purchasing one from a breeder or a pet store. When purchasing a pet from a breeder or pet store, you must not only pay the purchase price but also all veterinary expenses associated with bringing a new animal home.
In addition, by purchasing a pet from a breeder, you are much more likely to be bringing an animal into your family who will, in the future, have a higher likelihood of dealing with hereditary or other medical conditions caused by irresponsible breeding.
By adopting a Furry Kid, on the other hand, whether it be a mexed breed or a pure bred adult who's health has been assessed by us, your adoption fee is far less than the combined expenses of purchasing and veterinary care. You will even spend less adopting a Furry Kid than you would by adopting a "free to goo home" pet because of the veterinary care you will need to provide.
We keep our adoption fees as low as possible and, in fact, our adoption fees are never above what is the average amount we spend on each animal that comes in to our profram. We have the additional expenses of keeping all our animals on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives while they are with us, microchipping, providing them nutritious food and everything else they need. You can bre assured that your entire adoption fee goes directly to paying for each animals' care because we are an all volunteer organization, too. Below is an example of what you would expect to pay if you were to purchase a new pet vs. what you would pay to adopt a Furry Kid. While purchasing an animal can cost just $100 up to thousands of dollars, we will use the example of a "Free to Good Home" just to show ou the initial cost benefit (costs will vary dependant upon veterinarian):

* Heartworm Prevention is preventative care and your dog needs to be given one dose per month all year around throughout their lives. Read more about heatworms here...
** Flea/Tick prevention also needs to be given monthly throughout the life of the dog or cat
Furry Kids' adoption fees vary based upon what we have done for each dog and their age. It may also vary dependant upon the type of dog. The reason for this is to help us cover major medical expenses such as heartworm treatments, surgeries (from simple hernia repairs to hip dysplasia corrections!), and any other veterinary care an animal might have. It is Furry Kids mission to make sure each animal we are adopting out is healthy and happy.
Remember, there are still annual veterinary costs associated with having a pet such as vaccinations, exam and heartworm test and the purchase of heartworm and flea/tick prevention which are so important.
By adopting rather than purchasing, you are saving the life of an animal in need, helping reduce pet overpopulation and decreasing the amount of people who proliferate the existence of puppy mills!!
